“10 years ago today:
• jQuery was battling Dojo, YUI, and mootools for dominance
• node.js wasn't a thing
• Firebug was the only real developer tool
• Chrome wasn't released yet
• nobody took JavaScript devs seriously

Things change a lot in 10 years.”

TIL why on runs twice - travis-ci/pr is for the actual pull request, travis-ci/push checks if the tests would still pass when the patch is merged into master.

TIL to add `"use-api":false` to my composer.json vcs entries to avoid running into rate limits when using private repositories with on

When designing a user interface, imagine some old woman using it, say Margaret Hamilton, and she's clicking your app's buttons and saying to you, as old people do,

"Young whippersnapper, when I was your age, I sent 24 people to the ACTUAL MOON with my software in 4K of RAM and here I am clicking your button and it takes ten seconds to load a 50 megabyte video ad and then it crashes

I'm not even ANGRY with you, I'm just disappointed."

In the name of Ease of Use, they left out the Human aspect.

Use your computer how you're told to use it, and everything is easy.

Do anything new or novel and it's a struggle.

My nephew has an ipad.

He asked his dad how to write games. His dad didn't know. His dad asked me how to write games on an iPad. I told him not to bother.

My nephew asked me how to learn to write games.

I gave him a raspberry pi and a copy of pico 8.

Now he writes computer games.

He couldn't do that on his iPad.

"Yeah, gotta love those kittens!"
"What? I only post political commentary."
"Maybe that's what you post, but we see kittens."
"This is censorship!"
"Didn't you read the T&Cs? Everything controversial becomes kittens here."

@jd Remember kids: it's reduce, then reuse, and only *then* recycle.

Somehow, this became "consume, throw away, bin is full, panic, recycle, keep panicking, bioengineer a rapacious predator and set it loose upon the world".

I'm not 100% sure how this came about, but I have my suspicions.
